Xiangtan City Landfill Closure Project

As a key waste disposal site in Xiangtan City, the Shuangma Landfill has long shouldered the heavy responsibility of handling waste. However, as it ages, it faces numerous environmental and safety risks. In particular, its proximity to the Xiangjiang River, a vital waterway, means that improper waste disposal could easily lead to pollutants seeping into the river, posing a serious threat to the surrounding ecosystem and residents' water safety. Against this backdrop, the Shuangma Landfill Closure Project was developed to completely address the environmental issues posed by the landfill and achieve ecological restoration and sustainable development.

This project pioneered the design according to hazardous waste storage standards, a rarity in landfill closure projects. These standards set stringent requirements for site anti-seepage, anti-leakage, and gas collection and treatment, ensuring the project achieves exceptional levels of effectiveness in preventing the spread of waste pollution.

The material design comprises nine layers, from the base support layer, to the multi-layered anti-seepage and drainage layers, and finally to the top layer of vegetation. Each layer has been meticulously designed and selected. For example, the anti-seepage layer utilizes a combination of advanced high-density polyethylene (HDPE) geomembrane and bentonite waterproofing blanket. This multi-layer composite structure significantly enhances anti-seepage performance, effectively preventing leachate from seeping into the soil and groundwater.

Over the course of the project, the quality of the materials and construction has been highly recognized by both the client and the general contractor.
